Syllabus Statement
Faculty are required, by law, to make an announcement at the beginning of the semester and put a statement in the syllabus inviting students with disabilities to schedule appointments to discuss accommodations. In the spirit of Siena that staff and faculty go beyond this "mandate" and create an environment of welcome inclusion versus a classroom that just does mandates when necessary.
If the student brings a disability issue to the attention of the instructor and is not registered with the Office of Accessibility, please instruct the student to contact the Accessibility Coordinator. Please do not engage in infomration collecting, or ask questions--this can put the university at risk and is out of procedure. The students who have questions about disabilities and accommodation can contact OA several ways:
cmathis1@sienaheights.edu
P: 517-264-7683
F: 833-413-2849
Instructors should not ask a student if he or she has a disability, or provide accommodations/adjustments independent from the Office of Accessibility "Letter of Accommodation" (LOA).

Siena Heights University values diversity and inclusion; we are committed to a climate of mutual respect and full participation. Our goal is to create learning environments that are usable, equitable and inclusive. If there are aspects of the instruction or design of this course that result in barriers to your inclusion or accurate assessment, please notify the instructor as soon as possible. Students with disabilities should contact the Office of Accessibility (517) 264-7683, or cmathis1@sienaheights.edu, to discuss a range of options for removing barriers in the course, including accommodations. This process is initiated and driven by the student. It is to your advantage to begin the process in a timely manner, since accommodations are not retroactive. Grades earned before verification of a disability and approval of accommodations by the Office of Accessibility will not be changed.
In addition, the following are optional add-ins that may be used to bolster diversity and inclusion in your classroom, as well as the campus community as a whole:
As the instructor of this course I endeavor to provide an inclusive learning environment. However, if you experience barriers to learning in this course, do not hesitate to discuss them with me and/or the Office of Accessibility.
Any student who faces challenges securing their food or housing and believes this may affect their performance in the course is urged to contact the the Office of Accessibility (cmathis1@sienaheights.edu) and/or the Dean of Students (morlando@sienaheights.edu) for support. Furthermore, please notify the professor if you are comfortable in doing so. This will enable her to provide any resources that she may possess.
